Attention all breastfeeding moms and supporters!
Please mark your calendars for the upcoming
Breastfeeding Challenge 2007.
Join us Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Austin
Farmers' Market Downtown (4th and Guadalupe) to see if
Austin can set the record for the most mothers and
babies breastfeeding at one time (at exactly 11:00
AM)!
Breastfeeding mamas and babies, please register by
10:30 a.m. at the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies booth
near the corner of 4th and Guadalupe.
Fathers, grandmothers, supporters and advocates,
please come and show your support by volunteering with
registration, judging or just cheering us on.
The Hero of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Awards
will be presented for exceptional work in
breastfeeding promotion. This year's Heroes are Dr.
Susan Landers and Tracy Erickson.
The event is sponsored by
Central TX Healthy Mothers,
Healthy Babies Coalition and
The
Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin and
is part of the International Quintessence Challenge:
www.babyfriendly.caOnce again, we have partnered with the Sustainable
Food Center to host the event at the Austin Farmers'
Market, a perfect match since breast milk is the
ultimate sustainable food! Bring the family to enjoy
live music and locally produced fresh food and drink
from a variety of local vendors. There is free parking
as well as easy bus access to the market. See
www.austinfarmersmarket.org for more information.
This is our fifth year to participate in the
Challenge. Last year, 55 FABULOUS Austin moms and 56
babies showed up and latched on, once again making
Austin the largest participating site in the U.S.
There were a total of 4696 babies in all the 157 sites
across the US and Canada. Let's see if we can top that
again this year!
We hope to see you there! This is an easy, fun, free
way to help Keep Austin Breastfeeding for brighter,
leaner, healthier little Texans!
